Tempest grinned. "Good. I should probably ask someone to teach me how to feel if someone's reading my mind." She jumped off the rock, landing lightly with her knees bent. "It'll be this way," she said, walking backwards toward the street while keeping an eye on her new friend.

He hopped down and walked beside her. "I could teach you that, if you wish. I'm not a qualified instructor, but I've done quite a bit of reading outside of the school."

She turned around and walked down the street, her eyes on her feet as she avoided stepping in anything gross. "That would be cool," she said with a smile, purposely ignoring his reference to illegal mind-reading.

*OOC* That was actual reading, like in books. Not mind-reading.

"Have you ever tried thinking one thing and saying another?" Keith asked as they walked.

Tempest thought for a moment. "Not really. I don't really talk a lot, and when I do, it's usually what's on my mind. Or at least related to it. Hence the fact that my teachers dislike me."

"Then that will make you an easy target for psy-trained magi. I, for one, am always visualizing a shield around my mind. It keeps the prying minds of others away from me."

Tempest nodded. "That makes sense. I bet it takes a lot of practice."

Well, I'm getting off ^_^ Dinner time.

"Oh, it does." Keith nodded as well. "It's taken me years to get to this level."

*OOC* I'll probably be gone if/when you get back tonight.

"Well, I'll definitely start practicing," she said with a wry smile. She turned onto another street.

Keith followed her, nodding. "Good."

Tempest stayed quiet for a moment, trying to think of a topic. "So... how big is your family?"

"Just me, my brother, and my father." Keith shrugged. "Not that exciting."

Tempest shrugged. "Better than me. At least you have a sibling. I have my dad and my aunt."

"You want him? I'll trade you," Keith offered with a faint scowl. "Dad favors him, just because he's into fighting."

Tempest smiled faintly and looked down at the ground. "I can understand why you'd be annoyed. But your father plays favorites? Even though you're training to be a wizard?"

"Yeah, well, he's kinda biased, being a big fighter and a hero himself." Keith clenched one of his fists, the one she couldn't see.

Tempest nodded. "Well, that sucks. My dad's very pleased that I'm following in his footsteps. I'm even in the same house as he was, since we're both in Natural Magics."

Keith released the tension in his fist, sending out a silent, powerful blast of wind away from them. "I couldn't be more different from my father. The House of Furus is possibly the least physical House of them all."

Tempest nodded sympathetically. "Do you get along with your father at all?"

"When we talk. Which is about every third day." Keith shrugged as though it was no big deal. "It's not like he mistreats me; I'm just invisible."

"That sucks," Tempest said. "What do you do at home then? Or do you not stay home a lot?"

"I spend very little time at home. I sleep there, and eat about one meal a day there."

"That's sad," stated Tempest. "I spend a lot of time in my room. It's like... my own little lair."

Keith chuckled. "My room isn't big enough to hold a library, so I don't do that. I do have a room almost exclusive to me in the library, so I guess I do have a lair."

"That's cool... We have a library, since my dad is an avid book collecter, but it's just one open room. Maybe you want to come over sometime and see it. I'm pretty sure we have quite a few books you guys don't," Tempest offered.
