Slums of Ren

Here is my first character.

Charcter form: Human
Name: Lysander, called Sander by many people.
Age: 23
Background: He was raised by a farmer (not his parents) but was abused as a child, he escaped from the farm and went to live in the city. He has established himself as a mercenary and now fights for whoever hires him. He is currently unemployed.
Family: None that he knows of
Appearance: Tall but not broad. he has a tanned complexion, dark shoulder length hair, and a short beard. He always carries a sword and dagger on his belt.

Lysander woke up in a tavern bed. The warm air caused him to throw off all of his blankets and get up. He didn't have enough money to buy a breakfast, so he dressed and left for the streets, hoping to find work.

Filrian decided to take a different route to the Academy. He didn't know why, but he felt like the gods were leading him to the slums.

Lysander didn't care where he was going, all he wanted to do was find a job to do. He wandered though the slums without really paying much attention to where he was going.
Something was out of place. Why is there a well to do student in the slums?

Filrian paused. Someone was nearby. He shrugged and continued walking, slightly more alert.

If someone as well dressed as that man has business in the slums, then it's worth following him. Lysander stopped in an alley to stay out of the way and still be able to see the man easily, and if necessary, go after him.

Filrian stopped momentarily by a beggar and handed him a few coins. "Gods be with you."

He seems to be the nieve sort. Lysander moved to another alley to stay close.

Filrian continued on, feeling as though he should get to the college soon if he wanted to get anything done.

The man started moving again. Lysander moved out of the alleys and followed after him. He kept enough distance so as not to be obvious, but stayed close enough that, should the man turn off somewhere, he wouldn't lose him.

Filrian looked behind himself. He felt like he was being watched.

When the man looked behind him, Lysander looked down to avoid notice.

Filrian called to him. "Hello there, good sir."

Lysander looked up. Just ignore him and maybe he'll stop.

Filrian frowned. Maybe he's deaf. "Are you okay?"

"Are you talking to me?" asked Lysander pointing to himself.

Filrian glanced around. Seeing no one else, he said, "Not sure who else I'd be talking to."

"Well...we are in the middle of a street surrounded by a bustling crowd."

"Never mind, then." Filrian shrugged and continued on his way.

Lysander kept silent. It wasn't likely that the man wouldn't notice him following him anymore.

He could see the towers of the Academy now. He was getting close.

He seems to be heading to the academy. I can take a different route and still follow him. Lysander moved through several alleys and came out close to the academy, the man he had been following was nearby.

Filrian sped up a little as he neared the Academy. He approached the gates.

He seems well acquainted with the academy, so why did he go through the slums? Lysander moved through the crowd to get closer.

Filrian took a deep breath and shook his hair out of his eyes before opening the gate. He was about to do something that hadn't been done in years, and was frankly quite nervous about it.
